The increasingly crowded MOBA space has a new competitor, and it is bringing the firepower of the DC multiverse with it. Infinite Crisis, developed by Turbine (Lord of the Rings Online), is a free-to-play title that allows you to play as the greatest heroes and villains from DC Comics.
“We are thrilled to bring Infinite Crisis, a truly competitive experience featuring the DC Comics lore and characters, to the MOBA genre,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Turbine is a pioneer in online gaming and combined with the amazing world of DC Comics, they are executing on a game concept that expands the MOBA genre.”
The game will bring a steampunk and post-apocalyptic aesthetic to the stages within, along with map-altering events and interactive elements, such as calling down meteor showers and throwing cars.

Although the gameplay, originality and storyline will provide long-term sustainability to the MOBA title, it is the heroes that most gamers will be interested in at first glance. As of the initial announcement, 13 characters have been introduced:
- Batman (surprise!)
- Green Lantern
- Poison Ivy
- The Joker
- Wonder Woman
This also includes a few alternate-themed characters:
- Nighmare Batman
- Gaslight Batman
- Gaslight Joker
- Gaslight Catwoman
The gameplay mechanics allow each character one passive skill and four active abilities (one of which is an “ultimate”). Similar to other MOBA’s, Infinite Crisis includes the classic archetypes of Assassin, Bruiser, Marksman, Blaster, Support and Enforcer.
The game is being developed in conjunction with WB Games and DC Entertainment, so the plot and story should be in line with canon.
This immersive atmosphere could be what separates the title from the pack. Infinite Crisis will be released on PC later this year, with a beta available prior to launch.
What do you think about this announcement? Does Infinite Crisis look like it has potential, or will it get lost in the ultra-competitive MOBA space?
