I hate April Fools Day. Seriously, in the age of the internet, the last thing we need is a day dedicated to tricking, deceiving and fooling the general populace (we have the other 364 days of the year for that anyways). This tyranny must stop!
Okay, so maybe I am making too big of a deal about it, but when two cherished IP’s make big announcements that may or may not be true, I will start to freak out…..Like right now. In order to calm down, maybe it is best to talk about it, so lets do just that.
The Deus Ex franchise has been teasing something called Human Defiance for the past month, and now and we have gotten a video today to quell our curiosity. Take a gander:
So, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix, this was all just an April Fools joke? Not cool, sirs. The video itself is somewhat entertaining, but dammit, I wanted a new Deus Ex “something” and all that I got was two snarky dudes, wasting resources on an extremely elaborate April Fools ploy (currently shaking head in sadness). Thanks….
Now to what actually has more of a chance of being real…but considering the jokesters we have in the gaming industry, we will not know until more info surfaces. It is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and what we get is a quite awesome 80’s-style teaser:
Since no sarcastic jerks are seen talking about the game, it does almost seem like this could be an actual title. The flash frame at the end of the trailer does seem to indicate….something. They even have an elaborate website for the title, which offers this short synopsis:
“The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.”
Okay, that sounds awesome. But considering they are advertising ridiculously priced merch, like a 159.99 Euro t-shirt and a 129.99 Euro floppy disk version of the game, I am just going to stop speculating and quietly stew about how mean these guys are until I get an actual confirmation. Or…maybe I can do some sleuthing work and use Google Nose to find out more….
Can anyone in the world confirm or deny these ridiculous April Fools Day rumors? Any others you have seen today?
